ATEX certification is required for any electrical or mechanical equipment that is intended for use with a dangerous area. The ATEX directive came into force throughout the EEC in 2003, within this directive it is an obligatory requirement for all components or equipment that are used in a potentially explosive atmosphere are designed and built not to emit source of ignition through sparks, to not create static electricity and to not create any hot surfaces which may ignite within the combustible area.
